Volunteer Opportunities


Volunteers are our Best Friends at GumTree Museum of Art!

Volunteers make invaluable contributions to make your local Museum strong providing services throughout the year. You link us to our community as a whole and we greatly appreciate all volunteers.

The Volunteer program provides the opportunity for individuals to assist Museum staff and members to gain immeasurable customer service skills.

Volunteer Positions

Membership Volunteers
Volunteers sell and advacate membership benefits. They also inform Members and visitors with information regarding programs and events year round. Volunteers may serve as hosts at Museum related previews, exhibitions, and events. Volunteers in this position must have the ability to deal successfully with the public and develop a broad knowledge of the Museum’s resources. They may also aid in our annual Membership Drive during the summer by giving a helping hand with mail outs, membership cards, and Thank you mail outs.

Exhibition Volunteers
Volunteers greet visitors at the door, hand out brouchures, and assist Museum staff during all Opening Reception nights. This position is a wonderful way to meet and greet with people whom have similar interests and familiarize oneself with artists they would otherwise not here of in school.

Educational Volunteers
Volunteers help assist Museum staff during art classes while learning about art like TVA Saturday’s at the Museum, Art Camp, Boys and Girls Art Camp, Artapoolza (coming soon), Kid’s Tent (GumTree Festival), Shared Treasures Exhibition, Impression Exhibition, and the Youth Scholarship Competition. 

**GumTree Festival
Rated as one of the Top 20 Events in the Southeast, GumTree Festival has been serving Tupelo for 41 years. As part of our Festival, we are always searching for Volunteers to help efficiently coordinate an exciting two-day event. Individuals seeking positions at GumTree Festival must be able to deal with the public, have a thorough knowledge of duties, and be fully committed. Please refer to the Festival Volunteer Application form for positions.

***Docent Program
The Docent Program is a completely new volunteer program, which will be offered Summer of 2012. We are currently implementing Docents to improve our services to the public. If you are interested or know of anyone that is interested in being a Docent please contact the Museum. This position is a wonderful opportunity for College students seeking knowledge working with non-profits, museum related work, event planning, or just learning job skills for future employement.

****Volunteer Always Pay (VAP)
If you are a Walmart or Sam’s Club employee and would like to volunteer with the Museum. We have a program just for you. Please contact the Museum to find out more information about how you can contribute.

Volunteer service can also be counted for Community Service Hours towards any student organization with Museum authorization.

During National Volunteer Week, we celebrate the profound impact of volunteers and  encourage all Americans to discover their own power to make a difference.  Every one of us has a role to play in making our communities and our country stronger.
